Warm air heating with a constant high supply air flow rate without recirculation.

In Halmstad a multi-apartment house has been built with air carried heating. Fresh air was used as the only heat carrier. To improve the air quality it was decided not to use circulation flow, which is normally required for air carried heating. Theheating requirement was obtained with a higher air flow than what the standard requires. This also implied improved air quality. The standard specification states 0.5 changes per hour as the minimum requirement, but in Halmstad the house was ventilated with 0.7 - 1.0 changes per hour.

Performance evaluation of humidity controlled natural ventilation in apartments.

A commercially available humidity controlled natural ventilation system (Aereco) has been installed in the framework of a CEC demonstration project in 3 apartment buildings in France, the Netherlands and in Belgium. An extensive monitoring campaign in reference apartments and humidity controlled apartments during the 2 previous winters allowed a detailed analysis of various ventilation related parameters. Special attention is given to the evaluation of the humidity control on the performances.

Airflow patterns in a five-storey apartment building.

Tracer gas tests were conducted on a five-storey apartment building to determine the air and contaminant flow patterns within the building. The test method involves the injection of a small amount of tracer gas, SF6, into a selected location to create a single source and monitoring the tracer gas concentrations at locations throughout the building. Based on the rates at which the tracer gas concentrations change at various locations, the air and contaminant flow patterns within the building can be determined. Several such tests were conducted.

Experimental evaluation of a hygroregulating natural ventilation system.

In the framework of a CEC-DGXVII demonstration project a hygroregulating natural ventilation system is being evaluated in 52 occupied apartments. Therefore a multi purpose automated tracer gas equipment has been developed enabling the detailed monitoring of air flow rates in 60 rooms continuously. In addition the humidity levels, CO2 levels and air temperatures are measured as well as the outdoor climate. The first measurement campaigns partly used for evaluation of the measurement system are reported and show an impressive amount of data enabling various types of detailed analysis.
