ASHRAE ’s Residential IAQ Guide, published in 2018, contains practical and actionable strategies directed at multiple audiences, including builders, designers, occupants, whether they rent or own, and managers of multifamily buildings. It does this while also providing a compendium of sound scientific information for professionals who specialize in IAQ, home energy, commissioning, and those who develop programs and standards intended to transform industry practices.
On May 15th, 2023 ASHRAE announced the completion of the first draft of its standard for maintaining healthy indoor air quality (IAQ), with final approval expected in June and publishing anticipated in July.
On December 7, 2022 ASHRAE’s board of directors announced its commitment to support the expedited development of a national indoor air quality (IAQ) pathogen mitigation standard. The goal is to finalize the consensus-based, code enforceable standard within six months.

Our bodies need good rest and sleep as part of regular recuperation to enable us to perform our normal activities in life. Sleep is an integral part of human life and the importance and significance of good bedroom IAQ, indoor air pollution, ventilation as well as bedroom thermal environment during sleep cannot be emphasized more. Yet, there is a paucity of information in the scientific literature in this regard, especially pertaining to IAQ in sleeping environments and sleep quality. Are our bedrooms adequately ventilated at all times to maintain good IAQ?
In March 2022, ASHRAE released a position document discussing the role of indoor CO2 in the context of building ventilation and IAQ. The positions address the use of CO2 as a metric of IAQ and ventilation, the impacts of CO2 on building occupants, the measurement of CO2 concentrations, the use of CO2 to evaluate and control outdoor air ventilation, and the relationship of indoor CO2 to airborne infectious disease transmission.
