Displacement ventilation (DV) is an alternative to conventional mixing ventilation in various types of rooms. DV is superior to mixing ventilation when it comes to removing contaminants and surplus heat in a room if designed and applied correctly. In the design process of a space with DV it is necessary to have design methods and simulation tools that can predict the vertical contaminant stratification that arise.

Air quality in offices depends on the ventilation system ability to remove contaminants from the occupied zone. In a low polluted building air quality mainly depends on the human presence and carbon dioxide is normally used as indicator of human bioeffluents.

Furniture can raise indoor air contaminants with toxic emissions of VOC and formaldehyde.. While furniture is classified as a subject of safety and has quality labeling, there is a lack of domestic regulations related to contaminant emissions with the exception of sinks. When looking at the analysis on environment-related patients related to the smell or odors from furniture every year, patients suffering from asthma, allergic rhinitis, and atopic dermatitis are on the rise.
The presence of airborne contaminants in the production environment can create problems to products, production equipment and personnel. The improvement of the production environment is a complex task and therefore, unprofitable control measures are common. PIMEX and similar equipment (1-6) combines video picture of the work and simultaneously measured data from the sensors detecting e.g. airborne contaminants. Link between problem calling conditions and work can be analysed with the aid of video picture in which graphical presentation of data is superimposed.
