Passive control of relative humidity to +/- 5%.

Providing Quality for People has many aspects. Of these, one is providing buildings that give clients and users better value for their money. Another addresses the issues of preserving our heritage upon which our quality of life based. This paper describes how these can be achieved using the application of innovative design concepts supported by advanced analytical techniques. For the majority of archive repositories, storing as they do paper type material, environmental conditions of 60±5% and 15.5±2.5 °C are recommended by British Standard 5454.

Energy recovery in recirculation air systems and its calculation of dust concentration, relative humidity and heater capacity.

In some ventilation and dust removing system of workshop, a great deal of energy is wasted due to heated and cooled indoor air being exhausted directly. So if the dust in the indoor air is removed and then recirculate, the objective of energy saving can be reached. In this paper, the calculation equation of dust concentration, relative humidity in indoor and recirculate air and heater capacity are given along with the control measures to them.

Study on humidity environment in crawl space of dwelling house.

Many houses in Japan have crawl space between the lowest floor and the earth ground which is about 50 cm in height. This is considered as protection against corrosion of wood materials in the floor. Japanese building codes recommend ventilation with outdoor air in this space. In our field research, we found condensation in the crawl space in summer. This is due to low temperature of the ground and high humidity of the outdoor air which is typical of the Asian climate.

Passive monitoring of VOC in air using ACC.

This project dealt with developing the method of using activated carbon cloth as a sampler for measuring volatile organic compounds (VOC's) in air. Strips of carbon cloth mounted in slide holders were tested as diffusive samplers. These were exposed to known concentrations of standard chemicals in test chambers. The adsorbed chemicals were extracted with sol vents and analyzed. The tests showed that relative humidity has some effect on adsorption, and carbon cloths from different manufacturers showed some variation in their performance.
