Presents the results of measurements of the air leakage of 12 large office buildings. Various different construction types have been tested, with four of the buildings being naturally ventilated and the remainder air-conditioned.
Increased concern over the adverse environmental impact of energy use has encouraged the design and construction of energy efficient buildings, and many are suited to natural ventilation. In the temperate UK climate, naturally ventilated buildings can provide year round comfort, with good user control, at minimum capital cost and with negligible maintenance. The principle of good ventilation design is to 'build tight - ventilate right'.
