LOW-ENERGY COOLING FOR IMPROVED THERMAL COMFORT IN OFFICES

This study has explored the possibility and potential of using a thermal active mass system for reducingthe temperature rise and increasing the thermal comfort in an office room. The Controlled Active Mass(CAM) will be used as a heat sink to absorb heat from the room in order to increase the thermal comfort.Physically, the CAM system was designed as a cubic-shaped tank filled with water, with the tanksurfaces either polished or black.

MEASUREMENT AND FIELD SURVEY OF THERMAL ENVIRONMENT IN CENTRAL HEATING ROOMS

University dormitory is a kind of representative building in which central heating is supplied. The rooms are in simple types and the students’ activity schedule is quite steady, which makes dormitory room to be an appropriate place for field survey. This

Development of a ductless air supply system using low temperature air.

This paper proposes a new ductless air supply system with a ceiling plenum chamber using low temperature air as a secondary HY AC system for an ice thermal storage system. The proposed air supply system mixes low temperature air with return air from a room using a mixing fan unit (MFU), pressurizes a plenum chamber with the mixed air and supplies the air to the occupied room from diffusers on the ceiling.

Effect of ventilation on indoor thermal comfort.

Adequate ventilation and good air quality are essential for the comfort of occupants and productivity. Excessive ventilation however, may result in discomfort and high energy loss. A study was carried out to examine the influence of ventilation on indoor thermal conditions. The results show that ventilation has profound effect on lowering the indoor temperature, particularly the night time ventilation. Derived PMV is compared with actual votes (thermal sensation) and found that PMV is lower than actual votes.
