Reviews wind research prior to 1958, which was based on the simple concept of a smooth air flow resulting in static design loads for most structures. States that research for the past ten years has benefited from three innovations. These are theimplementation of a statistical theory of turbulence, experimentation with turbulent boundary layers and the collection of full-scale measurements to identify and evaluate the real wind structure. Reviews four recent projects to collect full-scale measurements on tall buildings in England, Canada, the Netherlands and Australia and quotes the main findings.
