IDEEB, a new EU-project for construction of offices with low environmental impact and required indoor comfort

Today the use of energy efficient technology and renewable energy sources have not become mainstream in the building industry. One of the main reasons for this is thought to be that each part in the building is considered separately. The approach in the newly started EU-project, IDEEB, is to adopt comprehensive view. This considers the building itself and its installations as one energy system to achieve the required indoor comfort at the same time as reducing environmental impact.
However, the extent to which new techniques can be utilized depends on many different factors, which makes each building unique and there are no all-encompassing solutions. The complex problem requires new guidelines and the Eco-factor concept is a way of working to reach the goal. The Eco-factor evaluates the successfulness of the energy system solution.
The IDEEB project is interdisciplinary with experts from different parties of the building industry that will do the research during design, construction and operation of four office buildings in Sweden, the Netherlands, United Kingdom and Greece.
