International standards : Filters for buildings and gas turbines

In this paper the development of international standards for filters used in general building ventilation and for gas turbine intake air cleaning is examined. CEN (Comit Europen de Normalisation) and ISO (International Standards Organisation) have working groups with European or worldwide membership to write european or international air filter standards and rating systems. It is not surprising in so far as the designs of buildings and industrial workspaces are losing national identities, the same amenities are desired, and the technical requirements for cleanrooms are the same in the world. A list of 41 standards and documents is given at the end of the paper.
