Airbase

AIRBASE is the Bibliographic Database of the AIVC. It contains publications and abstracts of articles related to energy efficient ventilation. Where possible, sufficient detail is supplied in the bibliographic details for users to trace and order the material via their own libraries. Topics include: ventilation strategies, design and retrofit methods, calculation techniques, standards and regulations, measurement methods, indoor air quality and energy implications etc. Entries are based on articles and reports published in journals, internal publications and research reports, produced both by university departments and by building research institutions throughout the world. AIRBASE has grown and evolved over many years (1979 to present day, over 22000 references and 16000 documents available online). For most of the references, the full document is also available online.

Access to the publications is free of charge.

This paper sets out the results of the York Energy Demonstration Project and discusses its implications for the modernisation of low rise housing in the UK.
Bell M, Lowe R
A programme of work involving the measurement of ventilation rates, air velocities and temperatures has been completed within a naturally ventilated auditorium in the Queens Building, De Montfort University.
Clancy E M, Howarth A T
A park influences its surroundings. Temperature inside and around the park varies in a special way. Air quality also varies. And the park creates its own wind system.
Upmanis H
This publication summarizes current information on heating (both space and hot water heating), cooling and ventilation systems and equipment used in low-rise, residential buildings with regards to their effect on indoor air quality.
Rousseau D, Bowser D, Mattock C
The paper presents a ventilation comfort chart that has been developed under Thailand climate and using Thai volunteers.
Khedari J, Yamtraipat N, Pratintong N, Hirunlabh J
Fuel-burning appliances require air for combustion. When the appliances are located in enclosed spaces, provision must be made for supplying the required amounts of air.
Dale J D, Wilson D J, Ackerman M Y, Fleming N P
A Japanese electronics company has developed a new type of gas-to-gas heat exchanger, called the Ductron.

Indoor air quality ventilation airflow rates and HV AC capital and operating costs usually are closely related.
Besant R W, Simonson C J
The central purpose of this paper is to develop and test a case for compulsory pressurization testing for new dwellings. The authors have argued elsewhere in favour of such a policy.
Lowe R, Johnston D, Bell M
Island and coastal areas in northern and western regions of Scotland are characterised by comparatively high levels of wind and rain - a combination that increases the wind-chill cooling of buildings and leads to higher energy consumption.
Bullen C R
Kakegawa City Hall, completed in March 1996, contains a sixstorey high glass-walled atrium integrated into the open-plan main office areas via stepped terraces.

Split-duct roof ventilators or windcatchers are used to provide both supply and extract ventilation to the spaces which they serve. However, buildings are often erected in conditions where there is no prevailing wind direction.
