Airbase

AIRBASE is the Bibliographic Database of the AIVC. It contains publications and abstracts of articles related to energy efficient ventilation. Where possible, sufficient detail is supplied in the bibliographic details for users to trace and order the material via their own libraries. Topics include: ventilation strategies, design and retrofit methods, calculation techniques, standards and regulations, measurement methods, indoor air quality and energy implications etc. Entries are based on articles and reports published in journals, internal publications and research reports, produced both by university departments and by building research institutions throughout the world. AIRBASE has grown and evolved over many years (1979 to present day, over 22000 references and 16000 documents available online). For most of the references, the full document is also available online.

Access to the publications is free of charge.

Two-dimensional computational simulations are performed to examine the effect of vertical location of a convective heat source on thermal displacement ventilation systems.
Park H J, Holland D
The paper presents a comparison between the results of experimental tests airflow pattern forming in a room with displacement ventilation and numerical calculation. The heat source in the room was a heating plate.
Trzeciakiewicz Z, Lipska B, Popielek Z, Mierzwinski S
A study is being conducted to assess the performance of displacement ventilation in high-ceiling areas such as commercial and industrial manufacturing facilities.
Arens A, Glicksman L, Chen Q
Wall-mounted air conditioning systems including window-type and split-type air conditioners are widely used in Asian countries.
Hsu H C, Chiang H, Shih Y C, Shyu R J
In displacement ventilation the airflow pattern in a room is mainly guided by the convection flows from the heat sources present in the room.
Mundt E
A number of new techniques have been developed in recent years, by various researchers, to assist in the sizing and positioning of natural ventilation openings.
Orme M S
In natural ventilation systems fresh air is often provided through opening of windows. However, the knowledge of the performance of windows is rather limited.
Heiselberg P, Svidt K, Nielsen P V
For natural ventilation of rooms there is a wide range of possibilities with regard to the selection of window type, size and location.
Svidt K, Heiselberg P, Nielsen P V
Environmental and economic concerns linked to conventional heating, ventilation and air-conditioning systems (HY AC) have sparked a renewed interest in natural ventilation, passive cooling and other low energy microclimate control strategies for b
Bourgeois D, Petvin A, Haghighat F
Natural ventilation systems for industrial buildings have traditionally been designed using empirical engineering models, which often require the designer to 'over-engineer' the design to achieve a 'guaranteed' level of ventilation performance.
Li Y, Chen L, Delsante A, Hesford G
As the climate in the Nordic countries is cold for several months a year, windows are crucial parts of building envelopes.
Larssen U, Moshfegh B
This paper investigates the relationship between the neutral height for air distribution and the ventilation load in a room with displacement ventilation.
Xing H J, Awbi H B
Temperature efficiency is an important index to estimate the ventilation effectiveness. Usually ,the temperature efficiency is determined through field or model tests such as gas-tracing technology.
Li A G, Zhao H Z
For indoor thermal environment engineering and heating system dimensioning, naturally ventilated spaces impose difficulties due to the interaction of indoor and outdoor air flows and due to their variation in time and space.
Li A G, Zhao H Z
The characteristics of a hybrid air-conditioning system, utilizing natural and mechanical ventilation, is investigated in an office setting.
Kato S, Murakami S, Chang H, Chikamoto T, Kim T
This paper briefly outlines the development of a design tool for ascertaining thermal comfort in high rise buildings in the tropics.
Potangaroa R, Aynsley R
Natural ventilation driven by a solar chimney attached to a single-room building is investigated experimentally with a small-scale model using a recently developed fine bubble technique.
