The Role of Wind and Natural Ventilation in the Vernacular Architecture of Zavareh

The identification of effective factors in the historical formation of architecture can help develop architecture and its various aspects (Mofidi, 2005). These factors may be classified in the groups of cultural, historical and climatic. Specifically, the application of the native and traditional basis of past architecture can be highly significant for the improvement of contemporary architecture (Fathy, 1986).

Induced ventilation of a one-story real-size building

In that study, induced ventilation is experimentally explored in a small well-insulated manufactured home, located in the northern edge of the Negev desert in Israel. Temperature monitoring was performed inside and outside the building in summer along with velocity measurements inside the building. The results show that with induced ventilation the air temperature inside the home is like the ambient temperature, whereas, when no openings, the temperature inside the manufactured home is higher than the ambient.

Bioclimatic desert house. A critical view.

The paper presents a bioclimatic house in the Negev Desert, lsrael, as a case study through which it attempts to present a comprehensive and critical view of bioclimatic architecture, design support tools, and appropriate details vis-a-vis common construction technologies and practices, assessing their relative impact and limitations. A number of topics are examined from different aspects, such as insulation and thermal mass, window systems incorporating double glazing, insulated shutters and window screens, vis-a-vis solar gains.lr ventilation and infiltration.

Energy conservation, climatic control and moisture in buildings.

This report gives a summary of research and its results at the Department of Building Science, Lund Institute of Technology, Sweden. Fields of research are: design and performance of low energy new buildings, energy conservation in existing buildings, utilisation of solar heat, climatic control, climatic control in foreign climates, especially desert climates, and moisture research.
