In 1986 The State of New Jersey embarked on a program that would enable the characterization ofthe State's indoor radon problem. The primary goals were to determine where in the state, elevatedradon levels in homes were likely to be found, and to increase understanding of the influence of avariety of environmental and structural parameters which exacerbated the flow of radon into homes. To accomplish this, a study was initiated which involved radon measurements in 6000 homes anddata collection and analysis of environmental and structural building parameters presumed toinfluence indoor radon levels. The study included an assessment of radon induced lung cancermortality risk in the New Jersey population.
