Airbase

AIRBASE is the Bibliographic Database of the AIVC. It contains publications and abstracts of articles related to energy efficient ventilation. Where possible, sufficient detail is supplied in the bibliographic details for users to trace and order the material via their own libraries. Topics include: ventilation strategies, design and retrofit methods, calculation techniques, standards and regulations, measurement methods, indoor air quality and energy implications etc. Entries are based on articles and reports published in journals, internal publications and research reports, produced both by university departments and by building research institutions throughout the world. AIRBASE has grown and evolved over many years (1979 to present day, over 22000 references and 16000 documents available online). For most of the references, the full document is also available online.

The AIVC website includes a protected content feature that provides access to AIRBASE. Access to the protected content is free of charge but requires you to register first.

It is important to understand and model the behaviour of occupants in buildings and how this behaviour impacts energy use and comfort.
P. Tuohy, H.B. Rijal, M.A. Humphreys, J.F. Nicol, A. Samuel, J. Clarke
The performance of a passive heating system was evaluated as part of design works for the project of an office building. The passive heating system incorporates an array of buried pipes together with a solar chimney.
Júlio Correia da Silva
Sustainable buildings design process is typical for modeling and simulation usage. The main reason is because there is generally no experience with such buildings and there is lot of new approaches and technical solutions to be used.
Kotek Petr, Jordán Filip, Kabele Karel, Hensen Jan
This paper presents different thermal comfort models and empirical verification for assessment of the thermal conditions of transitional spaces in the city of São Paulo, Brazil.
Leonardo M. Monteiro, Marcia P. Alucci
A parameter adjustment method for an ammonia heat pump chiller using a genetic algorithm (GA) was developed.
Eisuke Togashi, Shin-ichi Tanabe and Tomohiro Ataku
Energy and environment has been issues concerned all over the world.
Lin Wang, Xing Xu, Aihua Ma, Yonghui Guo and Xiwen Zhou
Local thermal sensations of all body parts were studied in neutral-warm room while face, chest and back were each exposed to local cooling air. Dressed in shorts, 30 randomly selected male subjects were exposed to each condition for 30 minutes.
Yufeng Zhang and Rongyi Zhao
When low carbon and renewable energy (RE) systems are adopted in a building, matching the outputs from RE systems (e.g.

This investigation of the window opening data from extensive field surveys in UK office buildings investigates 1) how people control the indoor environment by opening windows, 2) the cooling potential of opening windows, and 3) the use of an “adap

At room temperatures ranging from 28 to 35°C, three sensitive body parts were each exposed to local cooling airflow.
Yufeng Zhang and Rongyi Zhao
Definition of heating/cooling capacity ratio (HCR) of the heat pump air conditioner has been put forward in  this study, and the relationship between supply HCR (HCRS) and demand HCR (HCRD) has been illustrated.
Baolong Wang, Wenxing Shi, Quan Chen
Personal displacement ventilation (PDV) is a new ventilation concept that intends to combine the positive features of displacement ventilation with those of task conditioning or personalized ventilation. PDV is expected to create a micro-environme

Occupant evacuation dynamics is a kind of manybody system of strongly interacting persons. A great deal of factors should be taken into account in the study of fire evacuation, such as human behavior, fire products and architecture.

In the internally-cooled liquid desiccant dehumidifier (ICLDD), cooling medium is introduced to carry away the vaporization latent heat, which enhances effectiveness of heat and mass transfer process between liquid desiccant and air.
X.M. Chang, X.H. Liu, Y. Jiang
A liquid desiccant fresh air processor is presented whose driven force is low-grade heat (65~70℃ hot water). Inside the processor, the desired cooling source for air’s dehumidification is indoor exhaust air’s evaporative cooling energy.

Building use modes are important for energy consumption simulation. But few research concerns building use modes, such as people behavior of opening/closing window, room temperature for airconditioner running, and air-conditioning space and time.
Y.Gao, X. L.Zhang, D.yan
In order to determine the optimal combination of the heating source equipments in an existing office building, simulations of six different combination cases were conducted using the newly developed mathematical models of each component.
