Airbase

AIRBASE is the Bibliographic Database of the AIVC. It contains publications and abstracts of articles related to energy efficient ventilation. Where possible, sufficient detail is supplied in the bibliographic details for users to trace and order the material via their own libraries. Topics include: ventilation strategies, design and retrofit methods, calculation techniques, standards and regulations, measurement methods, indoor air quality and energy implications etc. Entries are based on articles and reports published in journals, internal publications and research reports, produced both by university departments and by building research institutions throughout the world. AIRBASE has grown and evolved over many years (1979 to present day, over 22000 references and 16000 documents available online). For most of the references, the full document is also available online.

Access to the publications is free of charge.

Discusses methods of overcoming the limitations of algebraic equations with small-scale physical and network flow models, as well as computer-based zone and CFD models.
Milke J A
Describes an investigation of the indoor air quality of a music company at their New York City office. The office was on the 31st floor of a block.
Anon
Moulds are a health concern. High levels of moulds in a building environment are to be avoided. Some species or high concentrations of mould are a serious health risk, and must be dealt with if we want to maintain healthy indoor environments.
Anon
Describes a recently developed technology from California which provides a way to duct seal installed residential systems in two to three hours.
Anon
Discusses the importance of R-2000 homes in the light of renewed concerns about energy costs. States that they are healthier, more comfortable and quieter than standard houses.
Anon
Describes elements of the 'Building America' initiative, a federally sponsored initiative that has as its goal to persuade production builders (100 plus homes a year) to build more energy efficient and durable homes.
Broniek J
Describes how engineers refurbished the RADA London Stage School, a building only 15 m wide and four stories high. Before refurbishment there was no mechanical ventilation at all, making some areas very uncomfortable to work in.
Fletcher K
One exposure pathway which has a significant influence on the outcome of a site specific risk assessment when volatile contaminants compounds are involved, is the leakage of contaminated subsurface gases into the indoor air environment.
adomait Environmental Solutions
Describes the indoor air quality remediation of a US elementary school. The school was in a poor state, with very high humidity levels due to steam from the boilers infiltrating walls and crawlspaces and roof leaks.
Anon
Defines the fundamentals of heating systems, including components, features, common system types, ventilation, indoor air quality and air filtration. Discusses the important features of design and installation that are most commonly overlooked.
Kadulski R
This symposium covers materials, techniques and technologies successfully employed in energy efficient air barrier systems for residential and commercial buildings.
BETEC
States that an air filter can prevent sources of infection entering the ventilation system. It keeps the ventilation system in good condition, and maintains the air flow rate, the temperature and the RH for which is has been designed.
Noordmans D
Due to infection risks, high demands are set for the air quality in operating theatres. This is normally realised through the use of a downflow plenum.
Loomans M, Lemaire A D, van Houdt W
Evaluates by measurement and computational fluid dynamic (CFD) modelling, the thermal performance of an atrium integrated with photovoltaic (PV) modules, situated at the Jubilee Campus of the UK University of Nottingham.
Gan G, Riffat S B
The article examines the feasibility of using thermal performance lines in assessing the efficiency of using energy in air conditioned commercial buildings in Hong Kong.
