Airbase

AIRBASE is the Bibliographic Database of the AIVC. It contains publications and abstracts of articles related to energy efficient ventilation. Where possible, sufficient detail is supplied in the bibliographic details for users to trace and order the material via their own libraries. Topics include: ventilation strategies, design and retrofit methods, calculation techniques, standards and regulations, measurement methods, indoor air quality and energy implications etc. Entries are based on articles and reports published in journals, internal publications and research reports, produced both by university departments and by building research institutions throughout the world. AIRBASE has grown and evolved over many years (1979 to present day, over 22000 references and 16000 documents available online). For most of the references, the full document is also available online.

Access to the publications is free of charge.

Describes how workers at altitude are subject to hypoxia, which impairs the ability to sleep, mental performance, productivity and general well, being.

The study aimed to evaluate the emission of volatile organic compounds from air filters. In the first part of the project, carbonyl compounds were measured by reacting them with 2,4-dinitrophenylhydrazine.
Schleibinger H, Ruden H
Cat and dog allergens in settled dust and airborne cat allergen were studied in day-care centres, with links explored between pet ownership among children and staff, ventilation and cleaning.
Wickman M, Egmar A-C, Emenium G, Almqvist C, Berglind N, Larsson P, van Hage-Hamsten M
An experiment was performed in a lecture hall on students, to assess the effect of ventilation noise on concentration and fatigue. The students were tested with the ventilation fans both on and off.

The document consists in the Proceedings of the 1999 AIVC conference, which took place in in August 1999 in Edinburgh (Scotland). It contains 141 articles corresponding to the speeches given during the Conference.

The efficiency of an air diffusion system consists of two factors. The first is the ability of the system to remove heat and contaminants out of the ventilated room.

Forced air distribution systems in residential buildings are often located outside conditioned space, for example in attics, crawlspaces, garages and basements.

The pressure field in fluid systems reflects the flow configuration. Measurements of the pressure along the perimeter of a slot ventilated room have been conducted for different room sizes.
