Airbase

AIRBASE is the Bibliographic Database of the AIVC. It contains publications and abstracts of articles related to energy efficient ventilation. Where possible, sufficient detail is supplied in the bibliographic details for users to trace and order the material via their own libraries. Topics include: ventilation strategies, design and retrofit methods, calculation techniques, standards and regulations, measurement methods, indoor air quality and energy implications etc. Entries are based on articles and reports published in journals, internal publications and research reports, produced both by university departments and by building research institutions throughout the world. AIRBASE has grown and evolved over many years (1979 to present day, over 22000 references and 16000 documents available online). For most of the references, the full document is also available online.

Access to the publications is free of charge.

Across the world, the dominant form of building construction is heavy, load-bearing masonry or poured concrete, not timber- or steelframe.

Balanced ·mechanical ventilation with heat recovery (MYHR) offers, in principle, a way of reducing carbon dioxide emissions from dwellings.
Lowe RJ, Broughton K
This paper reviews both the theoretical and actual impacts of energy conservation measures on indoor air quality in residential structures.

Ventilation is the process by which clean air is provided to a space. It is essential for the provision of fresh air to occupants and for the dilution and removal of pollutants. It is therefore at the focal point of building environmental design.

In Sweden there are close to 500000 one-family houses heated by electric baseboard heaters. Of them 90 % were built before 1980. In this group the most common ventilation system is natural ventilation.
Blomsterberg A
The model demonstration house described in this paper was designed to optimize occupant health by minimizing indoor air pollution.

Commission, the UN commission for development and the environment, has recommended a great effort on more efficient energy use, so drastic that the industrial countries would half their use of energy.
Andersson M
The Canadian Commission on Building and Fire Codes, senior committee in a national consensus structure dedicated to the writing of model codes under the auspices of the National Research Council of Canada, is preparing a new Canadian energy effici
Haysom J C, Lacroix M
The energy consumption for heating has in many countries been greatly reduced over the last few years. This is mostly achieved by the use of traditional energy conservation and solar technologies.
