Activated carbon filters have been used forpurification of air and water in industrialapplications. However these technologies have notbeen applied to the non-industrial builtenvironment in general and there is no standard toquantify or to classify the performance of thesesystems for in-duct mechanical systemapplication. The development of a standard testingprocedure and design tool are a very timely effort, since it would create a benchmark for evaluatingthe contaminant reduction and energy savings ofthese systems. This paper first describes the experimental setupfor testing for in-duct air cleaner systemapplications, and then presents the experimentalresults of three different kinds of activated carbonfilters
