Aside from amending terms and definitions, the purpose of the national Annex NA is to introduce “Procedure 3”. The annex has the purpose to ensure that the measuring method is feasible in Switzerland and that the airtightness quality in buildings is good. The building preparation, for instance, is slightly different compared to the previous method. There is a tendency to tape off fewer components to promote good workmanship.
In this context, I will digress briefly to comment on a Minergie pilot project planned for 2023: Thanks to progress made in the manufacture and assembly of critical components, it is now possible to plan a pilot project for a public works project. The project is an industrial building to be used for cantonal vehicles inspections and has a large number and area of roller shutter doors. Normally, roller shutter doors have many leaks due to their design and may be taped off in order to verify compliance with the limit values of the building envelope. Technical standards specifying the airtightness for roller shutter doors have improved over the last 10 years. It is thus no longer necessary to tape them off during airtightness measurements. Nevertheless, it is necessary to slightly adjust the limit values. They are set to a slightly higher value, depending on the installed shutter door surface. Accordingly, the components are also checked for airtightness during the measurements. The process has to be carefully planned and executed.
National Annex NB specifies the number and selection of measurement zones. We defined a sample measurement for multi-family dwellings in the annex. As apartments are normally measured individually in multi-family dwellings, we defined a minimum and maximum number of sample measurements as well as selection criteria for these zones.
