Airbase

AIRBASE is the Bibliographic Database of the AIVC. It contains publications and abstracts of articles related to energy efficient ventilation. Where possible, sufficient detail is supplied in the bibliographic details for users to trace and order the material via their own libraries. Topics include: ventilation strategies, design and retrofit methods, calculation techniques, standards and regulations, measurement methods, indoor air quality and energy implications etc. Entries are based on articles and reports published in journals, internal publications and research reports, produced both by university departments and by building research institutions throughout the world. AIRBASE has grown and evolved over many years (1979 to present day, over 22000 references and 16000 documents available online). For most of the references, the full document is also available online.

Access to the publications is free of charge.

Post Occupancy Evaluation (POE) is a platform developedin recent years to allow the systematic study of buildings once occupied, so that lessons may be learnt that will improve future design.
Meir, L.A.; Motzafi-Haller, W.; Krüger, E.L.; Morhayim, L.; Fundaminsky, S.; Oshry-Frenkel, L.
The aim of this paper was to study the natural ventilation by the stack effect in a reduced model of a building to obtain the night ventilation. A vessel, with double wall, built using glass and metal and filled with water worked as a chimney.

The sensation of comfort in buildings depends on externaland internal variables: the well-known PMV method relates the expected temperature with the physiological behavior of the human body.
Palme, M.; Isalgué, A.; Coch, H.; Serra, R.; Marincic, I.; Fanchiotti, A.
Following the study by V H C Crisp and P J Littlefair (CIBS, 1984)1 on Average Daylight Factor Prediction, the arguments for the use of average daylight factor as a design criterion are reviewed in light of new experimentalassessments.

The effect of shading in reducing the energy consumptionof office buildings in Athens is investigated in this article.
Nikolaou, T.; Stavrakakis, G.; Skias, I.; Kolokotsa, D.
This paper describes some of the thinking behind the thermal comfort provisions of the new European StandardEN15251 (CEN: 2007) which deals with all aspects on the indoor environment.

The Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) has estimated that the Mediterranean region could experiencean increase in annual mean temperatures up to 4.5 C by 2080.
Naukkarinen, P.
The Indoor Environment Quality (IEQ) is an importantdeterminant in the comfort and hence productivity of workers in office buildings, and a number of studieshave been undertaken in the Western world which shows this.
Nasrollahi, N.; Knight, I.; Jones, P.
In urban canyons where, apartment buildings can be beneficial in terms of their close proximity to offices, shops etc, causing less traffic congestion and pollution, saving fuel costs and bringing people in close proximity to city centres.
